Exploring the Impact of Cannabis on Sleep Quality in Cancer Patients

Introduction As interest in the therapeutic benefits of cannabis continues to rise, more cancer patients are seeking out compounds such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) to improve their quality of sleep. Research in this area is still limited, but preliminary findings indicate that cannabis may help alleviate sleep disturbances. A recent study specifically examined the effectiveness of cannabis in improving sleep for cancer patients. Study Overview The study involved the analysis of symptom responses reported by 1,962 cancer patients participating in the Minnesota Medical Cannabis Program (MMCP) from 2015 to 2023 to assess how cannabis affects sleep. The study examined the relationship between reported sleep disturbance scores and several factors, including the doses of THC and CBD, as well as the THC-to-CBD ratio. Consideration was given to important demographic factors, including sex, age, race, ethnicity, body mass index, and MMCP enrollment in the medical cannabis program. Key Findings One […]
